Let inspiration run free! Pupils/students can get creative here and give shape to their building ideas. They become architects themselves and design a house. Solid and traditional? Sure, this might fit well to the chosen location. Crazy and weird? Naturally, if this is what fits the bill.

Pupils/students present their ideas in a pretend architecture competition and give reasons – they choose the winning design together.
format
Project day, workshop of several hours

Competencies & mediation goal
Reflections on living together, abstract vs. spatial thinking
Historical context
Haus am Horn was also a competition in which architectural students and master architects took part. Walter Gropius was also there. He would have like to implement his idea of a »Big Construction Kit«. But his design was rejected. Instead the painter Georg Muche was voted to be the winner democratically. He originally designed the house for himself and his pregnant wife.

Bauhaus ideas on living space fluctuates between a flowering utopia and stark rationality. Their idea of tackling living problems of the time and making contemporary suggestions and solutions is still up to date.
Topicality
In this module students are confronted with unusual architectural problems. This will start a process of finding form and consciousness. The social component of building and designing will be introduced into the discussion.

According to the German architect and university educators Benedikt Stahl, architecture can still learn from the Bauhaus masters how to give the life attitude of a given time its own language with a free spirit. He himself is inspired by this basic idea when he is working on, e.g. urban design, or designing schools and kindergartens.
